As always light refreshments will be provided. To help us prepare, please register ahead of time. Your in-person attendance is encouraged, but if you can only make it virtually, please use the Virtual event to receive a Zoom link to view the meeting.  If you need a ride or want to ride transit with a buddy, please take advantage of our Comrade Carpool when you RSVP! Our kickoff session will meet at Bixby Park, head down along the beach, and end at Juu Café on Broadway. We'll have run and walk groups to accommodate all paces. Join Comms for our monthly in-person meeting! We'll use this time to collaborate on ongoing content creation as well as brainstorm new ideas for our Chapter's communications work.

Socialism requires a global effort to transform society and Long Beach, in particular, is an international city. The DSA Long Beach International Solidarity Committee (ISC) facilitates work around these struggles of the working class around the world, deepening an understanding of the interconnected nature of these struggles. ISC coordinates action with other local organizations, National DSA's International Committee (IC), and the rest of the Chapter's work around issues such as immigration, Palestinian liberation, the National Democratic Struggle in the Philippines, and Cuba solidarity. Curious about socialism? Are you new to DSA? Are you new to Long Beach? Then our Political Education Committee invites you to our DSA-LB 101. At this orientation, we’ll talk about: how capitalism functions and why socialism is radically opposed to it the history of our organization and our chapter in particular the current projects we’re working on and how you can get involved We'll also learn more from you about where you want to plug in and answer questions you might have! This is a great starting point to meet other new members, get connected, and ground yourself with some of the basic politics of our org. RSVP for Link.

DSA-LB has endorsed Prop. 40 — the 2026 Billionaire Tax Act. The Act would levy a one-time 5% wealth tax on individuals with a net worth of more than $1 billion. This tax would fund crucial social services, jobs and healthcare in our state.  Join our Tax the Rich Working Group at our next meeting as we build our campaign to tax the rich! Laptop/tablet recommended to bring, but not required.

The question every socialist needs to ask is 'what is to be done'?  When we look around and see all of the problems that surround us, we can feel helpless. We don't have much power alone, but our collective power can change the world! So how do we take advantage of that power as a united working class? Well, that's where organizing comes in. DSA is an 'organization of organizers', where we recognize that we each have a role to play in our struggle for socialism. If you're looking to improve your organizing skills or learn some new ones, this is this place to start. Our Fundamentals of Organizing series will cover: What is Organizing? (virtual): Understanding the role of the organizer and how to develop a campaign to win strategic demands From Strategy to Tactics (virtual): Learning how to use tools like power mapping and research to determine the necessary steps to win demands Building People Power (in person): Developing practices to build a base through 1 on 1 conversations, ladders of engagement, and listwork. These lessons build off one another so it's recommended that you attend them in order when possible.  **Due to limited in person space, priority for the third session will be given to those who have attended the first two meetings. Philosophers have only interpreted the world. The point is to change it.

In-Person Cowork Session every second Thursday of the Month, 6pm Virtual Meeting every last Thursday of each month, 6pm Get involved in our electoral work on the local level and drop by our monthly in-person and virtual Electoral Politics Committee (EPC) Meetings. We regularly discuss ways to get involved in campaigns and how to move electeds on policy issues. Join DSA-LB, SEIU-UHW and our partner organizations — LB Indivisible, CLUE Justice, LAANE, and LB for a Just Economy — for a community Town Hall for Proposition 40, the California Billionaire Tax Act, which will be on the ballot in November! There will be a panel discussion, Q&A, and avenues to get involved in the local Prop 40 campaign. Light refreshments will be provided. Join our regular Political Education Committee meetings. PolEd creates educational programming such as regular night schools, member trainings, and reading groups to further develop our socialist analysis and practice. 

Interested in getting involved with our Labor Committee?  The DSA-LB Labor Committee organizes around issues facing workers in our workplaces. We seek to strengthen and build solidarity with the broader labor movement and fight for socialism using our power to stop the profits of our bosses. We strive to give our members the skills to organize in their workplaces and build power for working people.

Long Beach Transit is one of the best ways to get around our city. Not only does it support students, workers, and those with disabilities, but it also allows people to move within the city and not just through it. DSA-LB is organizing a campaign made of a mass coalition of transit riders and local organizations to demand a fare-free bus system in Long Beach by the 2028 Olympics. Members will get to discuss the work we have done so far, introduce and vote on important proposals, and decide how to direct our resources this month. September 16: Hybrid Working Meeting at Trademark Brewing, 7-9pmBring your laptops and grab a drink! We will be working on high-priority campaign tasks and projects. This is the second of the deliberation and decision-making meetings this month for our campaign. Members will get to discuss the work we have done so far, introduce and vote on important proposals, and decide how to direct our resources for the next month.
